Reserves v Shrews
Hone, Pembleton, King and Mullarkey all in for tonight's game. http://www.redimps.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10440~1370967,00.html

2.2 all half time, was going to this but such a tish day at work that I forgot

Lost 5-2. Shrews scored 3 in last 20 minutes. We just cannot deal with second halves at the moment. http://www.redimps.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10440~1371468,00.html

Total lack of strength in depth, especially compared to Shrewsbury.

The Greatest Dancer- 08-21-2008

Whilst it would be nice to have a squad big enough to compete at reserve team level with the biggest spenders in the division I think it is preferable to be lean and mean so to speak. I think we have enough cover in most positions except at centre back/left back. It could be argued that some of our players are not performing but we do have back up through our younger players (i.e. Pembleton, King, Mullarkey) in many positions. Didn't our reserves do quite well last season?

thecaptain- 08-21-2008

The bonus is it should help the young players develop. But I do think we need a loanee or two.

Impsforever- 08-21-2008

I think we have enough cover in most positions except at centre back/left back. Which is half the defence. Repeating errors the 2 Js made does not say much for Jackon's perception of the team.

The Greatest Dancer- 08-21-2008

Which is half the defence. Repeating errors the 2 Js made does not say much for Jackon's perception of the team. I think he could be forgiven for thinking that 4 centre halves on the books would be enough but that was based on Sinclair's fitness being good and that is not proving to be the case at the moment. A loanee would be useful to cover for Sinclair's current absence. Ryan Shotton from Stoke who played for Alty last season would be better than Beevers and is available for loan. I do think that left back is a problem area though and one position which we need a body in.

Impsforever- 08-21-2008

Agred to an extent, but having Beevers as your first-line back-up CB is always likely to land you in hot water.

Imp_of_76- 08-21-2008

Beevers always looked better as a right back to me but I don't think he's good enough to shift Green. If we can get Sinclair fit, he'll be one of our most versitile defenders and we do look more solid at the back with him.

Didn't our reserves do quite well last season? jeez is this another excuse for a shitte season, last year it was paterduller and MK..now its shews ffs.. I'm sorry lads but if we can't compete with shrews we may as well give up.

thecaptain- 08-22-2008

To be fair, Shrewsbury have had a lot of income recently. I doubt we can compete with them right now.

jeez is this another excuse for a shitte season, last year it was paterduller and MK..now its shews **@.. I'm sorry lads but if we can't compete with shrews we may as well give up.   I think you miss my point entirely. I think we can compete with Shrewsbury at 1st team level with the squad we have got, with possibly a couple of additions, but if they have 7 or 8 senior pros on the books who are mainly languishing in the reserves I don't think we could compete with them at that level, nor would I particularly want us to do so. Lean and mean is what we should be aiming for with good use of the loan system when necessary. Don't forget Shrewsbury started the season well last year but finished 8 points below us in the end. The time to look at the league table is at the end of September not now. However, thats not to say it wouldn't have been better to have 6 points in the bag already!

Didn't the Shrews get 500k from Man City as a result of Hart playing for England at the back end of last season?

adam_lcfc- 08-22-2008

Didn't the Shrews get 500k from Man City as a result of Hart playing for England at the back end of last season? I'm not sure whether they ever did in the end. Got a feeling they didn't though. There was the fuss about us playing too many subs, then Citeh were debating whther the clause stipulated a competitive game or any game. I think, in the end, they didn't get anything. Their money has mostly come from moving stadium to somewhere more profitable (non-matchday revenue etc.) than the old Meadow.
