I went in to the Tesco store at Hampton, Peterborough after school today and saw two incredibly odd pieces of marketing.

Firstly I noticed that Green King IPA was on sale at £10.61 for 12 x 440ml cans. Immediately above this were packs of four x 500ml cans of exactly the same beer priced at £2.96 for a pack! So for £8.88 I could get exactly 6 litres whereas for £10.61 I could get 5.28 litres!

Across the aisle they were selling two different sized boxes of Budweiser beer in 300ml bottles...

On the left was a big pallet of 15 x 300ml bottles on sale at £12 per pack and on the right was a (smaller) pallet of 20 x 300ml bottles on sale at £10 - thus £2 cheaper for five extra bottles!

Have they gone stark staring mad or is this extremely clever marketing?

Clever marketing. Most people do not lool closely and just see the deal for lots and assume it must be better.

I finally bought a box, today, of the cheaper Budweiser! Still on offer at £10 for 20 x 300ml bottles and still next to the pallet of Budweiser 15 x 300ml bottles at £12.

I didn't bother to ask...
